Privacy policy for the app
This privacy policy covers the memdiz app for iOS and Android. The controller is mindrevolution GmbH, Fritz-Walter-Weg 19, 70372 Stuttgart, Germany. Contact: hello@memdiz.com. The website memdiz.com is covered by the separate website privacy policy.
Account and family
For your account we process your email address, sign-in details, the name chosen in the app, your role (parent or student) and your family membership. We need these to provide the app and assign content correctly within your family (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). If you sign in with Google, Apple or Microsoft, we receive the identity confirmed by that provider and its privacy policy also applies.
Consent for children under 16
If a child under 16 uses memdiz, we obtain a parent's consent before the first recording (Articles 6(1)(a) and 8 GDPR). We store the time of consent and the version of this policy it refers to. Consent can be withdrawn in the app at any time; this does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
Voice recording and analysis
A recording only starts when your child actively triggers it. The audio file is transmitted to our servers over an encrypted connection and passed to our processor Groq, Inc. (USA) for speech-to-text conversion. The audio file is not stored. Our extraction engine identifies subjects, homework and exams from the transcript; for this the text is sent via our processor OpenRouter, Inc. (USA) to an AI model — without your child's name, email address or profile data. The transcript is deleted immediately after analysis. Your content is never used by us or our processors to train AI models. Transfers to the USA rely on Article 46 GDPR (EU standard contractual clauses) or an adequacy decision (EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework) where the provider is certified.
Stored learning data
Only what your child confirms after analysis is stored permanently: subjects, homework, exams, timetable and study plans (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). This data is hosted on servers in Germany (hosting: Hetzner Online GmbH) and can be edited or deleted in the app at any time. Parents in the family see the confirmed plan, not the recording or transcript.
Sharing with classmates
Students can connect via an invite link and copy entries from each other. Copied entries are stored in the student's own account and labelled with the name of the person they came from. For accountability we log which entries were copied (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). Connections can be removed at any time.
Subscription and purchases
Purchases take place through the App Store or Google Play, where Apple's or Google's privacy policies apply. Our processor RevenueCat, Inc. (USA) manages the subscription status using a pseudonymous identifier and tells us whether a subscription is active. We never receive payment details.
Retention, export and deletion
Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. You can export your data and delete your account entirely in the app; statutory retention duties remain unaffected.
Your rights
You have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, plus the right to complain to a data protection authority.
